We Are Writers!
For the third time in as many years pupils at the Kingswood Primary Academy are overjoyed to see stories and poems they have written published in a book.
Every pupil, from nursery to those in Year 6, have had the opportunity to take part in a writing project called ‘We Are Writers!’ Older pupils wrote stories about something they liked and were encouraged to use a plot that expressed their interests. Younger pupils, with support from their teachers, wrote stories and poems in groups.
To promote the book to parents, the Academy held a Scholastic Book Fair this June. The response was overwhelming and parents and pupils visited the book fair every day.
In total, pupils and their parents spent just over £1000 at the book fair, of which approximately £315 came from orders placed for the ‘We are Writers!’ book. The Academy received sixty percent commission which has been invested in more books for the library.
Wendy Gordon, Principal of Kingswood Primary Academy, said: “The quality of writing in this book shows that our pupils are extremely creative and have great imaginations! Pupils have been involved through the project – from drafting and editing their stories through to helping sell the finished books to their families and friends at the book fair. This book is once again a real celebration of the talent within our Academy and has sparked a renewed interest in reading and writing which we will build on.”
Pupils are extremely proud of the work they have produced. Below are things some of the pupils have said:
“I really enjoyed taking part in ‘We Are Writers!’ - I can't wait to do it again.”
“I never thought I could have my story published.”
“It was an amazing experience to have my story published in a book. I will remember this moment forever!”
